Twilight Mania
What is it that Edward Cullen have that even I love Harry Potter and High School Musical than Twilight, my church mate was able to convince me to watch that much awaited and much praised bestselling book-turned-into-movie film? Harry Potter 5 just passed without me watching it though I consider myself a real HP fanatic. I write a lot of articles about High School musical, seldom about Harry Potter, or should I say never (I apologize to those who’ve been drawn to my blog because of the ‘Daniel Radcliffe’or ‘Harry Potter’tag. Don’t worry I am working on really writing something about my real favorite(s) ) and I actually never planned of writing something about Twilight though it may be a fad of this season. I’ve never read the book so unlike its fans, I was not disappointed that it didn’t exceed my expectations and cravings from the book but it did disappoint me in a way that I think I could have seen much romance and sweet scenes had I watched High School Musical and had not Harry Potter rescheduled its show date. But you see I am an optimist, I am not saying that watching it was a total disappointment. I am not being villain to all its fanatics (since one of the close friends is) because in a way it was a good movie, the writer who is also a member of our Church (yes Stephenie and me are both LDS—what that is, you already knew but just don’t realized it because you usually hear it as ‘Mormons’) and she is really commendable with her amazing writing skills. I expected too much because you see they say it’s the bestseller after my all-time favorite, Harry Potter, and well the movie was able to meet that expectation so far. Great thing I was not able to read the book because usually best-sellers-turned-into-movie films are a little disappointing compared to the book. So going back about not planning to write about this current mania but actually doing it and skipping sleep, it was good. My favorite scene was when the Cullens played baseball and they were all flying and moving way fast. Then all the family members protected Bella. Bella, she reminds me of Anne Hathaway’s beauty—simply stunning. All in all I didn’t regret the experience of watching it, I am actually adding it to the my Favorites’ list now, not because everybody likes it and I just wanna go with the flow, but because I have personally seen and like it in a way. It’s just funny that the film that I do not profess to be my all-time favorite was the only movie that I watched before the year ends. All throughout the film it gave me a feeling of hope that those scenes could happen to me and my current crush (now that’s being ridiculous really) because it was a little different than the usually ‘love triangle’ story and it’d be cute if it could just happen in reality. Stephenie reminds me of Dan Brown that writes of simple details in a sort of ironic and contradictory to the usual, like the Cullens live in a bright house illuminating light everywhere, contrary to the popular belief that vampires live in a dark and dreary haunted houses, when in the movie they have the most elegant house! Another ironic detail was the cross; it’s both ironic and funny. And when most kids used to fear vampire, now I think they would, and their parents would willingly give out their necks just for Edward to suck…haha. Then what I like about Stephenie’s way of writing was some settings of the story depicts a little of her belief. The introduction goes something like this 'do not partake of the forbidden fruit' (whom we all know to be Bella), which is relevantly relative to that in the Bible, then the controlled number of kissing scenes and then the place where Edward revealed his real identity to Bella flashed into my memory of the picture of the Sacred Grove. All in all the experience wasn’t regretful. In the contrary it was amazing. Everything about the movie was just commendable.
